The Nitro has been my favorite plane for some time, but that has not stopped me improving on it, or at least trying to. Firstly I have added a cross tail to replace the v, it made a noticable difference while dsing and gives me more elevator authority, less buffered by turbulence and I feel more in control. It has honestly not made any difference to its front side performance though apart from being a bit heavier. Did this experiment on an original Nitro fuse and wing so that I could compare the differences before commiting to new moulds. One other big difference is the wing seat, it is set down into the fuselage to get the stab into cleaner air, and the wing will be held on with tape wrapped around the fuselage and turtle deck. A switch to the ds19 wing section should mean tighter turns with more speed I hope, though the original had good speed, just a shame it has never been guned. Downside to this performance increase is probably going to be that its not much fun on the front like the original was / is. Lots of camber and thickness to the new section so am expecting fairly poor inverted performance though it will be very lifty, so able to carry lots of weight in a lighter wind..... Its going to be exiting testing this one out.
Not being one to take the easy approach I have gone straight for a carbon spared monster wing, lots of carbon tows over end grain balsa, and the wing skins are 410gm biaxial carbon, I can just get a bit of a slight flex when across my chest, so should be up to the task. Fuselage is glass, lots of layers but the tail does have a slight flex, will see how it goes and maybe make a carbon one in the future. Have had some problems deciding on the nose boat, but just did not like the gear intsalled upside down so have gone for a coventional approach, working on the plug and mould for it though the first fuselage has a hacked nose boat in it. Will update when I have made some more progress.
