Wanted to build a chunky 45" ds plane that will survive heavy ground hits and turn hard to fit into my local sites ds groove and produce some exiting speeds. Taped on wings seemed like a good idea to accomplish this and made the wing seat nice and wide to increase the stability there as the tape gives a less solid joint than steel bolts. My planes seem to survive fast nose ins fairly well but a tip strike at speed usually does a lot of damage, this is where hopefully I will have to just replace the broken tape on the Wurzel and carry on flying. The moulding process is duplicated in the workshop section but is all Wurzel relavant so have included it here as well.
Have pulled a few parts from the moulds now and know where to improve things on the next project, inflatable bladders look like the way to go for getting strong parts with good seams where access is limited, but has to be incorporated into the fuselage design from the start. Doug Penman helped me out with the Wurzel and was great to have someone to bounce some ideas off, the goal being to build and fly this little one as a basis for a 2m plus design which will be called Alien. Doug has been flying his and seems to be very happy with it, posting 103mph on one of its early ds flights on rc speeds should be lots more to come from it in the future and really fantastic to see it on there with its own page. Still no gear fitted into my version so must pull my finger out and get it ready for the Autumn breezes.
